Müsebeck/Muesebeck

Peter Christian Müsebeck was born in Vierow, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany, in 1833. In 1862, he married Christine Marie Joachime Däbel in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. They had three children, then left Germany from the port of Bremen on the ship Deutschland, arriving in New York on 25 Jan 1869.

The family is living in Chicago, IL, on the 1870 census, and they had one more child, born in 1871 in Chicago. On the 1880 census, Christine’s mother is living with them in Chicago.

And because we don’t have the accented letters, when you see the German umlaut (the two dots above a vowel) you can change it to the American spelling by adding an e. So in Germany it is Müsebeck, in America, it is Muesebeck.

Peter Christian Muesebeck became a citizen on 25 Mar 1892 in Cook county Circuit Court, and he died 22 Jan 1893 in Chicago. His death certificate says Christian Muesebeck; most records say Christian (not Peter). Place of death is an address on Saginaw Avenue in Chicago; the complete house number cannot be read, but it starts with 87. In 1892, Peter’s daughter Wilhelmine was living (with her husband) at 8705 Saginaw Avenue, so he probably died while at his daughter’s home. Peter’s wife Christine Daebel Muesebeck died 02 Aug 1892, so he may have been living with his daughter after his wife’s death.

Foeh-Jwf-WilhelminaNEWPeter and Christine’s daughter Wilhelmine Christine Dorothea married John William Frederick Foeh, and Peter and Christine’s son Rudolph Karl Friedrich married Emma Elizabeth Nagel. The photo shows John Foeh and Wilhelmine Muesebeck on their wedding day 27 Apr 1884.

Gabi Neumann continues researching the Muesebeck ancestors in Germany. She sent me some corrections to some entries I had made and some new information, but I still have not put them in my database yet, so there is more work to do there.
