Status update

Well, I certainly haven’t posted in awhile. Even though I feel like I’ve spent the past year doing everything for everyone else and nothing for me, I have spent a bit of time here and there on the genealogy research. Here’s where I stand with the various lines and topics:

  • First, the program I use, The Master Genealogist, is no longer being supported or updated. The owner is retiring the program and himself. So I’ve been looking into other genealogy programs and have narrowed down my choices to a few that I think will work for me, but I’m going to have to try them out to really be able to make up my mind, because none of them look like they have all the features I want.
  • On the Bruns/Ferber line, I had hit a brick wall with Granny’s mother Louisa Wolff Bruns because she was adopted at an early age and I couldn’t find her birth parents. But I managed to get in touch with a descendant of Louisa’s brother William, and he very kindly forwarded a lot of data on Louisa and William’s ancestors. I need to get this information on the website, along with some photos I have scanned. Also I need to write down information that goes along with the photos.
  • On the Kevish line, I have not been able to find Mihaly Kives in the parish records online. After the success I had with Leontina Posa, I was hoping I’d have the same success but no such luck. I want to see if there is someone at the local FHC who could point me in the right direction, but the center has been closed for a few months for renovations, and is still closed. There is a nearby training center where you can view films, but it’s only open 3 days a week, not open in the evenings, and has only 2 film readers. So I’m going to wait until the FHC opens again, hopefully soon.
  • On the Thompson line, now that I know the right Mary Jane Thompson who married Charles Allen, I can start filling in the Thompson ancestors. I had to take a break on that line, after digging so deep to find the right Mary Jane I felt like my brain was gonna explode. I may have to get film records to find out more.
  • On the Chapman line, now that I have the right William Chapman who married Sarah Harvey, with information from indexes, I need to get the films of the parish records and verify the information before I can go back any farther.

That’s it for now. Time for bed, gotta get up early tomorrow and go into the office 🙂

Back again

Well talk about busy. I won’t bore anyone with the details. I’m hoping to get back to the genealogical research soon. You know, doing something for me, instead of doing everything for everyone else. And laundry doesn’t count. I mean something I enjoy and it’s not absolutely necessary. Retirement looks so good right about now! Not soon enough to start a countdown, though, carp!

And I did actually look into Louisa’s parents a bit more before I had to put the research on hold. I had found three males in St. Charles county that were single in the 1870 census and the right age to be Louisa’s father, but in 1880 they were all still alive with families of their own and none included a girl named Louise/Louisa born about 1874. There are a lot more Wolf/Wolff/Wulf/etc families in St. Louis county, but that will take a lot longer to go through all the males of suitable age, so I’m going to put that aside for now and see if I can find some easier way to figure out Louisa’s parents.

On Hold

The genealogy research is on hold, while I tend to my mother-in-law’s needs after falling and breaking her hip. Hopefully things will settle down soon and I can continue the research.

And I just realized today is my mom’s birthday. She would be 90 today if she were stil living. Happy Birthday Mom!  🙂

No More Birthdays

I have decided that I will no longer accept any birthdays. I already have all that I need. If I don’t get any more, I will never get older, right?

Thank you for your support.
